Mattel introduced three new series. The first had metalflake paint jobs with rather large speckles using castings from the basic line. The second series, called Gleam Team, had basic line cars with plastic upper bodies. They had embossed metallic designs over the entire body of the car. The Pro Circuit line re-created the more popular race cars from the world of motor sports. Each came with its own individual trading card. Mattel sponsored the Hot Wheels SCCA Trans-Am car in which Jack Baldwin won the 1992 Championship. Mattel also issued a blimp and retooled the Hiway Hauler casting after a run of 12 years. This was also the first year Limited Editions cars were produced for collectors. These included several historical race cars and the popular Ruby Red Passion.
