2014 ‘A’ Case Pick of the Mix

OK We have the first case code under our belts and now it time for us to pick our five choices of the mix. #139 DATSUN 620 – This is just a little out of the norm addition to the Hot Wheels line and yet fits right in. Pretty much a stock pickup. No hood scoops, no outrageous fender flairs, not slammed to the ground. Just a simply 70’s pickup nicely done. #164 24 OURS – As a Le Mans style race fan I really enjoy this fantasy race car based off a Peugeot 908. The black and orange paint scheme is real eye-catching. #199 Chevrolet SS – The regular issue of this car is hot. And the super with a Spectraflame paint and Steelie Real Riders is on fire. #141 Sling Shot – It’s a fantasy casting you can love or hate. This one done in race team colors ...

No Longer a One and Done

We found these two new 5-packs that included some of the most interesting casting choices.  First is the HW Wheels City Works.  The casting choices used are interesting. The Rapid Transit makes a excellent  police car, as does the Hyperliner as a school bus but the green Ballistik as a taxi just doesn’t make to much sense to us. Second one we received is the Monster Mission. The only car that doesn’t fit in this group is the Formula Street in gold chrome It’s more of a street racer not something you would chase monsters with. The one surprise in this pack is the Hi I.Q. It’s one and only release was in 2004 and after a nine year hiatus, lead most collectors to think it was a one-and-done casting. Never say never. You can see all the individual casting on the 5-packs page.

Pick of the Mix “Q” case.

Pick of the Mix “Q” case As the year comes to a close we look at the ‘Q’ case pick of the mix. This is the last mix for 2013 and 2014 is all ready upon us. This mix offered some of the best and bad Hot Wheels this year. This mix included four color exclusives from Kmart and the final three zamac cars from Walmart. The Hot Wheels Newsletter team is hoping the zamac exclusives continue for the 2014 model year. In no particular order, this are our picks for the Q case. 24 ’11 Corvette Grand Sport – Even in the store I gravitate to this color combo. It just looks sharp, 190 ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser  – We know it’s the third color but we can’t seem to get enough of this model. The flat black on this one is the best of the bunch. 208 ...

Pop Culture Archie Comics Sometimes you just have to open them to appreciate them. That’s the case with a new Pop Culture series Archie Comics. Except for the ’67 Ford Bronco all cars in this series has an unique design on the opposite side. A couple subtle and the others are totally different. We think most of the casting and decos capture the feel of the Archie comics.

A look at The Muppets

Character Cars As I’m looking over and photographing that latest round of Character Cars – The Muppets, I’m really gaining interest and enjoying these collectible cars. One of the thoughts I have is what is the future of this line of cars? They tend to remind me of 1970’s Farbs in a way. The Farbs were people made to look like cars and the characters cars are cartoon characters made into cars. In my opinion, I think these will be sought after in the future as Farbs are today. One of the reasons is these are made for kids and as they get older and become collectors these are the type of Hot Wheels® cars they will remember playing with. Similar to the adult collector of today liking the Retro series and the Pop Culture series. As we muse over of days gone by.

A look at the Cool Classics C Mix

Here at the Hot Wheels Newsletter we are really enjoying the Cool Classics. The color choices and decos are exceptional. When we first opened the box we were a little taken back by the bright “turquoise” color of the ’51 Buick LeSabre Concept but the more we looked at it the color the it fits the car. The race deco on the Shelby Daytona and Mercury Cyclone are modern yet spot on for the era. The same going for the muscle cars in this mix the ’62 Chevy and ’67 Olds 442, the decos just works. We also notice that the ’62 Chevy is the first car to offer a gold chrome version of the exclusive retro slot wheels. Last but not least is the Beetle, it’s tastefully done with subtle ghost red flames. As we’re enjoying these we can’t wait to see what the next mix has to ...

The latest round of cars has the Hot Wheels Newsletter crew thinking about the top 5 picks of the ‘P’ Mix of cars. Here is our list of picks in no particular order . Check out all  the 2013 mainline releases so far.  Mad Props – Introduces in 2004 it has been a staple in the line up ever since. With 29 releases including variations this one is not a disappointment. With its red, white and flat black colors and Fire department design make this a must have in any ‘Fire Rods’ collection. Baja Truck – With only its second release and the first time in mainline we believe this one will be quickly bought up. Not only by collectors wanting the two different greens used in the tampo but by the young collectors too. I can see this sharp looking concept truck in the sandboxes across the country.
