1979
There were eighteen new listings and twelve models in new colors and/or tampos. Mattel continued the seven themes introduced in 1978 and added three new series: Golden Machines, Heroes, and Scene Machines. Golden Machines was a 6-pack of gold-chrome cars from old castings; the cars were never sold in single blisterpacks. The Heroes series was based on Marvel Comics characters; each vehicle had the character’s name and picture on the sides or top. Scene Machines had a photo inside which was viewed through a lens in the rear of the vehicle.
