Going for the Gold – A look at the Gold series promotional releases.
Starting in 2014 Mattel released the first of a series of Gold Edition cars. These were mostly available in countries outside of the United States. Similar to the United States’ mail-in cars the gold editions were to be given away with a purchase of certain amount mainline cars. Each store did the give-away differently. Stores were given cases of these Gold Edition cars to give away to customers as they purchased a certain number of cars or sold at a premium price. It was done this way to offer a special car and not have to mail out cars to international buyers. Intended mostly for the international markets, some of these cars of these have been used in the US for store promotions. The following is the current list of cars in this series.
