1977
There were 69 vehicles with 12 new castings and changes on 10 previously issued models. This year Mattel started phasing out “redlines” or red-stripe tires (rsw). All 1977 standard-line models were available with both rsw and basic wheels (bw). Several are extremely hard to find in rsw and very valuable. The Thrill Driver Torinos, released later in the year in a “set,” were the sole vehicles to have only bw. This year also marked the introduction of the popular gold-chrome vehicles. These are listed in earlier years because they were re-issues of older castings.
