Mattel introduced three new series. The most popular among collectors are the 25th Anniversary collectors’ series which replicates eight cars from the first three years. Each came with a plastic button in a replica of the 1968 blisterpack. The cars have red-striped tires and Spectraflame-style paint. The blistercards carry the 25th Anniversary logo in the upper left hand corner. The logo is also embossed into the underside of the base. These cars were released throughout the year in one color per car per month. Other than Red Baron and Paddy Wagon, there are eleven distinct colors per car on a blistercard and one totally different series of colors in an 8-pack. These were the first cars to be produced in so many different colors in the same year since 1973.
The second series is Tattoo Machines. These have unusual tampos and the package contains a packet of corresponding tattoos for kids. There are twelve models in the series and all were made in China.
Third is Revealers, with thirty-six different vehicles. Each comes on a separate blistercard and is wrapped in a rice-paper bag which dissolves in water. These bags are numbered one through twelve. Each bag contains one of three different colored vehicles. Plus one out of seventy-two has a blue token which at the time, could be redeemed for a set of ten completely different vehicles. Approximately one thousand bags contained a gold token which won the lucky buyer a free Hot Wheels bike and vacuum-metallized gold Lamborghini Countach.
