Of the 51 models issued, 21 were new releases. This was the first year Hot Wheels® cars were manufactured in both Hong Kong and Malaysia. All blistercards remained the same as 1981. A Hot Ones 3-pack was issued with a cloth patch; two vehicles (yellow Datsun 200 SX and black Corvette Stingray) were only available in the 3-pack.
